Smarty Pants

Today Mrs Jones' reading groups read "Smarty Pants" for our big book.
We drew some pictures of Smarty Pants the clown.
They are pretty awesome!

Fabulous Writing

Each week Mrs Jones' writing groups have a picture prompt to write about.  This week it was this picture...

We talk to a buddy on the mat about what we can see in the picture, who is in the picture, what they are doing, why they are doing it, etc.  Then we help Mrs Jones write a story in our modelling book.

Below are our stories from this week about this picture...

Autumn Leaves Writing

As part of our rich language experience this week, the children in Te Ope Rua Raki explored our school grounds to find autumn leaves.
The children then described the leaves using their senses, such as smell, sound, sight, touch.
They came up with some fantastic WOW words to then use in their writing.
Our writer of the week, used SIMILES in his writing!

Communication

We have been talking about Communication.
We know that communication is when we send a message and receive a message.
Today we communicated with Te Mauru e Taki nei (next door).
First we text Mrs Signal and her class.  Then we called her on Mrs Montofre's phone.  Mrs Montofre put it on speaker phone so we could all hear.  We told Mrs Signal and her class what we thought "communication" was.
Then we video called them - this was fun.  We used the big screen and we could see all of the children next door (and they could see us).  We asked them some questions and they asked us some questions.
Then we sent Mrs Signal a Snap Chat and she sent us one back.  It was so funny! Mrs Signal was a cat!  We sent one back and Mrs Jones had a kiwi fruit head!
After we had finished we sent Mrs Signal and her class an email to thank them for communicating with us.
Can you count all the different ways we communicated today?

Mindfulness

It looks like we are asleep - but we are not!
Every day after the afternoon roll we do "Mindfulness."
We lay on our backs the floor with our hands resting on our tummy, and our eyes closed, and we listen to the mindfulness clip on the big screen.
We do it every day before our afternoon school work to help re-focus our brains for our learning.  Mindfulness helps us pay better attention and to concentrate more with our learning.
So for this 7 minutes we do look like we are asleep - but we definitely are not!

Board Games

Mrs Gatehouse brought some of her children's old board games in for us to use.  Mrs Jones showed us how to play them and taught us the rules.
We need to take turns and cooperate with each other when we are playing the board games.
These board games are going to be great to use at Maths time.
