Seat Belts

Cody, Raquel and Akeilah have been reading about Seat Belts.  They made these fabulous posters today after they had read the text to show all the things that they know about seat belts and their importance.  They have been learning how to make notes of important information as they read.

Investigating Insulation in Reading

Some of our Reading groups in Te Māuru-e-taki-nei are learning how they can use their reading skills to investigate science concepts.  This week the Kakapo group have been reading and learning about insulation.

Kakapo Reading Group.

We read a text with a science experiment.  It involved wrapping bottles with different things to see what kept the water inside the warmest (what was the best at insulating the bottle).
On Tuesday we all made a hypothesis about what type of insulating material would be the best.
Today with Mrs Hansen's help we carried out the experiment.

Each jar was filled with hot tap water and then wrapped in a type of insulating.
We took the temperature of the water at the start before we wrapped the jar, and then we came back an hour later to take the temperature again.

Writing down the temperatures.
Measuring the temperature of the water.

This is what we found out:

Treasure Maps

On Monday we read a book called Treasure Island. We decided to make treasure maps. We drew them on paper first. After that we stained them with tea and coffee to make them look old. Last of all we burnt the edges with the help of our teacher. We think they look awesome, what do you think?

Kiwi Can

In Kiwi Can at the moment we are learning about co-operation.  We have been doing some amazing activities with Nicky and Reece each week.  It's lots of fun and we are learning to communicate with each other to help us work together with a buddy or in a small group to co-operate.
