Friday 20th Google Meet #2

What a fantastic turn out today! At one point we had 17 students attending our Google Meet.  Once again thank you to all the adults helping our students connect.  We have already developed some great knowledge on the etiquette of the Meet.  Ms Clothier revisited some of the points on the workings of this just to remind everyone.  This will enable each and everyone of us to have a chance to interact with each other once we gain some on-screen confidence.

We had some students share their home workings with enthusiasm, great work, keep it up!   As Ms Clothier says send us your work and we can share it on the blog.

Ms Courtney is on her DFI course today, but managed to join us for our Meet. Great to see the other adults from the hub as well, Mrs Parker, Mrs Manson, Ms Ruru, Ms Lana and Mrs Moriarty.

Looking ahead to next week, we will update you as information comes to hand.  Enjoy your time at home with family, stay safe.

Zack has written a story

Thanks for sharing your story with us Zack. What a good way to keep up your writing skills.

If anybody else has anything they would like to share - please email us a photo and we can pop it up on the blog too.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our first Google Meet this morning. It was lovely to see so many faces!

Today and tomorrow's Google Meets will be a practise run to make sure everybody's technology is working. If lockdown continues into next week our Google Meets will be more formal, with learning opportunities for the children.

Here is the google meet link;

On our blog there is a home learning tab up the top, within this are learning activities that will engage your child. Feel free to have a look and explore some of these activities over the coming days.

Please keep an eye on your emails from us and enjoy spending time with family. See you for our next Google Meet at 10am tomorrow (Friday 20th).

Lockdown ideas to keep you busy at home!

Basics

- Learn to follow a recipe (scones, muffins, pancakes)
- Learn how to look after the house (cleaning, jobs - recycling, setting the table)
- Build fine motor skills  (drawing, cutting paper, crafts, art, chalk drawing)
- Keep a journal of daily activities, thoughts and wins.
- Stem challenges (building a tower, boat, building, bridge with items from around the house)
- Learn to tie your shoe laces

Oral Language

- Talk with your children. Ask them questions about how they are feeling and what they think about stuff.  Use the what, where, when, why and how questions to help them to extend their thinking and speech.

- Spend time colouring in with your child, check that they are using the correct pencil grip.

Cutting out

- Spend lots of time cutting pictures out of magazines and creating collages which you can talk and write about if you want to.

- Create stories and books.

Playing Games

- Teach simple card games like memory and snap.

- Play games like snakes and ladders with two dice so they have to add the numbers together.

Reading

Read to your child.  Or look at online websites  like https://www.storylineonline.net/ or http://www.scholastic.com/100BestReadAloudBooks/#logo that will read books to you for example storyline online where actors read the story.  Listen with your child and when the story is finished discuss:
- What was the best bit? - Why
- Who were the characters?
- What happened first, next and last?

Keep practicing the alphabet, the name of the letter, the sound it makes and a word that starts with that sound.

Read to your child, have your child read to you. Let your child read to a teddy or favourite toy.

Maths

We have recently been learning about shapes. Explore the shapes you have around your house and garden. Take photos of these shapes and discuss how many corners and sides it has.

Week 4 - Level 4 Lockdown!

Hope you have all received an email from the team in Te Ope Ruaraki.

Here is a TVNZ home learning link to recordings from last year, if you are looking for some interesting and fun ways to keep your child engaged.

Enjoy this family time, stay safe.
